Maharashtra to Train 500 Professors in Quantum Tech

In a major academic push aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Department has launched a quantum computing training programme for over 500 college and university professors. The initiative, announced by Minister Chandrakant Patil during a high-level meeting at Mantralaya, aims to strengthen teaching capacity in emerging technologies and align faculty expertise with India’s future tech goals.

Designed in partnership with i-Hub Quantum Technology Foundation and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, the training will focus on core areas like quantum theory, computing, research innovation, and practical skill development. The programme forms part of a broader effort to make Maharashtra a globally competitive state in science, technology, and higher education.

Skill development aligned with Developed India 2047 vision

Minister Patil stated that the initiative would equip educators with 21st-century teaching competencies and empower students to receive modern, future-ready instruction. He highlighted that the programme is not only about technical literacy but also about fostering advanced instructional capabilities in institutions across the state.

The training will help build a long-term talent pipeline for quantum technologies, which are increasingly becoming critical in defence, communication, finance, and national security sectors. Academic officials and representatives from research institutions like IISER Pune, MITRA, and the Quantum Technology Cell also participated in the programme’s rollout discussions.

Maharashtra takes lead in integrating emerging tech with education

This initiative represents one of the first large-scale faculty development programmes in India focused exclusively on quantum computing. It reflects Maharashtra’s broader commitment to NEP 2020 goals, which include curriculum modernisation, interdisciplinary learning, and integration of cutting-edge research into the academic mainstream.

Officials stated that the programme will serve as a milestone in redefining academic excellence and innovation-led teaching in state-run institutions.
