Google, Microsoft, Nvidia Join India’s Creator Economy Push

Seven global technology and media giants—including Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia—have joined hands with the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) to strengthen India’s growing creator economy, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced during the first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES).

The IICT is poised to become a national centre of excellence for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector, a fast-growing industry that is set to redefine content creation, digital entertainment, and immersive media experiences.

“IICT will work closely with industry to make our young creators future-ready,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in strategic collaboration with FICCI and CII, designed to function at par with India’s premier institutes like IITs and IIMs.

Building a Strong Foundation for Emerging Creators

Vaishnaw highlighted that India is home to over 40 million digital creators, representing a vibrant sector that is fast becoming a significant contributor to both employment and innovation.

The first phase of IICT has been set up at the NFDC Building, Pedder Road, Mumbai, offering world-class facilities such as:

  • Gaming and animation labs

  • Edit and sound suites

  • Virtual production setups

  • Immersive studios

  • Smart classrooms and a preview theatre

Phase two of the institute will expand to a dedicated 10-acre campus at Film City, Goregaon, significantly scaling infrastructure to accommodate India’s booming creative talent pool.

Democratizing Creativity and Connecting Global Talent

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that the democratization of technology is reshaping the creative industry globally. From the methods of content creation to new modes of content consumption, the landscape is evolving rapidly.

Events like WAVES are positioned to bridge global creators, investors, producers, and technology enablers. With more than 100,000 creators from 60 countries participating in the inaugural event, India is positioning itself at the heart of the global creative economy.

“WAVES will provide exposure to new technologies and create new economic opportunities,” Ashwini Vaishnaw added.

A New Era for India’s Creator Economy

As the creator economy becomes a major global economic driver, India’s efforts through IICT—powered by partnerships with industry leaders like Apple, Meta, Adobe, and Star India—are aimed at equipping young creators with the tools, skills, and platforms needed to succeed.

The focus on AVGC-XR, immersive storytelling, and next-gen technologies will not only empower SMEs in the creative space but also ensure India’s leadership in the global digital content revolution.
