Aadhaar Face Authentication Hits Record 15.87 Cr

India’s adoption of AI-powered digital identity solutions has reached a new milestone, with Aadhaar face authentication feature recording 15.87 crore transactions in June 2025. This represents a dramatic rise from 4.61 crore in June 2024, showcasing increased reliance on artificial intelligence for secure and contactless identity verification.

The system, developed in-house by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is actively used by more than 100 ministries, departments, banks, oil companies, and telecom firms. Available across Android and iOS platforms, the face authentication system enables seamless verification using only a facial scan.

Aadhaar ecosystem continues to scale

Overall Aadhaar authentication transactions touched 229.33 crore in June 2025, marking a 7.8% year-on-year growth. Since its inception, the Aadhaar system has processed more than 15,452 crore authentication requests, reinforcing its role as the backbone of India’s digital public infrastructure.

The government notes that the face authentication tool enhances user convenience and strengthens digital trust. With over 175 crore cumulative face authentications completed to date, it is rapidly becoming central to Aadhaar’s verification processes across sectors.

e-KYC and inclusion drive momentum

In addition to face scans, Aadhaar’s electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) feature processed over 39.47 crore transactions in June 2025 alone. This service supports streamlined onboarding across banking and financial services, helping regulated sectors meet compliance while improving ease of access for citizens.

The increasing use of AI and machine learning within Aadhaar’s ecosystem highlights India’s strategic commitment to digital inclusion and secure identity verification. As digital services grow, the integration of facial biometrics is expected to expand further, ensuring quicker and safer access to government schemes and private services alike.
