Aadhaar at the Core of India’s Digital Future

In a significant push for innovation, integration, and inclusive governance, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday inaugurated the third edition of the Aadhaar Samvaad in New Delhi. Addressing over 750 stakeholders, the minister emphasised the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI), calling it the “new industrial revolution,” and highlighted Aadhaar’s centrality in India’s digital public infrastructure (DPI).

Integrating AI with Digital Infrastructure

Speaking at the Unique Identification Authority of India’s (UIDAI) flagship stakeholder conference, the minister urged attendees to share actionable ideas on leveraging AI within India’s growing DPI framework. “Aadhaar is the ‘aadhaar’ of many initiatives and is the core of our DPIs. The integration of AI must preserve privacy while driving progress,” said Vaishnaw.

He pointed to Aadhaar’s face authentication feature as a pivotal innovation that is improving ease of living and enabling secure, paperless access to services.

Stakeholders Discuss Future of Aadhaar Ecosystem

The full-day event brought together technocrats, government officials, and sector leaders to explore how Aadhaar can expand further into governance, fintech, and service delivery. Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, lauded Aadhaar for accelerating inclusion and economic growth, while Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI, underscored the development potential of Aadhaar-linked data.

UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra reiterated Aadhaar’s vital role in building out India’s DPI network and said, “Face authentication is becoming more robust and increasingly adopted across sectors.”

CEO UIDAI Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar described Aadhaar as a transformative platform for service delivery. “The Aadhaar ecosystem is future-ready, and Aadhaar face authentication is quickly becoming the hallmark of secure verification,” he said, also highlighting Aadhaar’s humanitarian success stories, such as reuniting missing children with their families.

Launch of New Aadhaar App Focused on Privacy and Control

A major highlight was the unveiling of a new Aadhaar mobile app designed to empower users to share only selected data while accessing public and private services. The app enables QR-based digital verification and includes face authentication to enhance usability and security.

The early adopter release of the app was made available to registered participants at the Aadhaar Samvaad, with a full public rollout planned following user feedback. UIDAI hopes this innovation will eliminate the need for photocopies while enhancing data privacy.

Continuing the Aadhaar Samvaad Series

The Delhi event marked the third edition of Aadhaar Samvaad. Previous editions in Bengaluru and Mumbai focused on digital identity technologies and fintech ecosystems respectively. This edition’s theme, “Innovation, Inclusion and Integration,” framed discussions on strengthening enrolment, authentication, and expanding Aadhaar’s role in good governance.

Demonstrations of new tools such as the Aadhaar Sandbox also showcased UIDAI’s continued commitment to technological advancement and ecosystem collaboration.

Aadhaar’s Expanding Role in India’s Digital Future

With over 15 crore face authentications taking place monthly, Aadhaar continues to evolve as a cornerstone of India’s digital transformation. UIDAI expects that the insights from Aadhaar Samvaad 2025 will lead to enhanced service delivery, better governance use cases, and increased adoption across new sectors.
