India to Lead in 6G Regulation Development

India is set to take a leadership role in defining global regulations for emerging 6G technology, according to Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia. Speaking on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 17, Scindia underscored India’s rapid digital growth and its expanding influence in global telecom governance.

“The rollout of 5G technology has already reached 82% of the population across 99% of the country’s districts in just 22 months,” Scindia said, adding that India is now poised to contribute significantly to global policymaking around 6G standards and frameworks.

India Post and digital inclusion at scale

Scindia also highlighted India Post’s transformation and enduring relevance in the digital age. With a network of 1.64 lakh post offices and 2.5 lakh postal workers, the postal system remains one of the world’s largest logistics and distribution networks.

He noted that new digital services are being integrated into the postal system, enhancing its role in last-mile connectivity and public service delivery. Scindia also shared that he had personally designed the Department of Posts logo in 2008 with the slogan: Postal Service is Public Service.

The remarks reflect the government’s broader push to position India not only as a major user of telecommunications infrastructure but as an active contributor to setting global technology norms.

Public sentiment fuels boycott of Turkiye and Azerbaijan

Scindia also commented on the ongoing public boycott of Turkiye and Azerbaijan, triggered by their diplomatic support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. “This is the will of the people. The nation comes first,” he said, framing the boycott as a voluntary and emotional response aligned with national interest.

The minister’s statements come amid rising public awareness of the role digital technologies play in shaping national and global discourse — one of the key themes behind World Telecommunication Day.
