J&K Launches e-SeHAT App for Digital Healthcare

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday unveiled the ‘e-SeHAT’ app, a new digital initiative aimed at transforming the Union Territory’s healthcare delivery. The app has been introduced as a one-stop, comprehensive solution for healthcare access, catering to the needs of citizens, doctors, and healthcare professionals across J&K.

One-Stop Digital Healthcare Solution

Positioned as a cornerstone of the administration’s e-governance efforts in healthcare, the ‘e-SeHAT’ app will facilitate seamless interaction between patients and healthcare providers. Features include appointment scheduling, health record access, and communication with medical professionals. The chief minister underscored the app’s transformative potential, terming it a step toward revolutionising the region’s healthcare landscape.

To further expand its utility, Abdullah suggested incorporating empanelled private health institutions into the appointment system and enhancing user interface to improve accessibility.

Training and Awareness Drive to Ensure Effective Use

Recognising the need for smooth rollout, the chief minister directed the Health and Medical Education Department to organise hands-on training workshops for healthcare staff. These sessions aim to ensure that medical professionals are well-acquainted with the app’s functionalities before it is widely promoted to the public.

Public awareness campaigns will follow the staff training phase, with the goal of encouraging adoption of the app among citizens and maximising its impact across urban and rural regions alike.

Multi-Tiered Monitoring and Review Mechanism

To ensure accountability and ongoing improvement, Abdullah called for a structured review framework. According to his directive, the app’s implementation and performance will be monitored weekly by the Secretary of Health and Medical Education, monthly by the Chief Secretary, and quarterly by the Minister in charge.

During the launch event, Secretary of Health and Medical Education, Syed Abid Rashid, delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the app’s core objectives, primary use cases, and its potential to streamline healthcare services for a digitally empowered J&K.

The e-SeHAT app is expected to play a crucial role in bridging service delivery gaps and building a tech-enabled public health ecosystem, especially in remote and underserved areas of the region.
