Around 30 per cent of Indian employees report feeling daily stress, while nearly 50 per cent are actively looking to switch jobs, according to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace 2025 report.

The study also highlights that employees in South Asia—including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal—are experiencing higher daily anger and stress levels compared to regions such as the United States, Europe, Canada, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Gallup’s report provides insights into how employees globally feel about their work and lives, identifying a trend of increasing emotional disconnect among workers, particularly managers.

Globally, the percentage of engaged employees fell from 23 per cent to 21 per cent in 2024. Though the decline may appear marginal, Gallup estimates the resulting loss in productivity cost the global economy approximately $438 billion.

Anger and Dissatisfaction on the Rise: Report

The report indicates that 34 per cent of Indian employees experience daily anger, a figure significantly higher than China (18 per cent) and Finland (6 per cent). Finland, notably, continues to rank as the world’s happiest country.

Gallup also found that nearly 49 per cent of Indian employees are actively seeking new employment opportunities, suggesting broad dissatisfaction and highlighting challenges for organizations in retaining talent.

Gallup defines employee engagement as the involvement and enthusiasm of employees in their work and workplace. The report notes that engagement improves when employees’ basic needs are met and when they are given opportunities to contribute meaningfully to their organizations.
