₹1,112 Cr Electronics Manufacturing Clusters in TN: Govt

In a major boost to India’s electronics manufacturing sector, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the establishment of two new electronics manufacturing clusters worth ₹1,112 crore in Tamil Nadu. The initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to expand India’s electronics industry and enhance its position in global exports.

Speaking at the inauguration of Zetwerk Electronics’ seventh manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Union Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid growth of the electronics sector, which has now become India’s second-largest export industry, surpassing several traditional sectors over the past decade.

Tamil Nadu to Get Two New Electronics Clusters

Union Minister Vaishnaw stated that the two upcoming electronics manufacturing clusters will be established in Pillaipakkam (Kancheepuram district) and Manalur (Thiruvallur district).

“These will be large-scale electronics manufacturing clusters that will provide a major boost not only to Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem but also to India’s overall electronics manufacturing capabilities,” he said.

The ₹1,112 crore investment reflects the government’s continued commitment to making India a global electronics hub, with Tamil Nadu emerging as a key player in the sector.

Zetwerk’s New Facility to Strengthen Domestic and Global Supply Chains

The Zetwerk Electronics facility in Sriperumbudur, which was formally inaugurated by Union Minister Vaishnaw, is part of a ₹1,000 crore investment by the company. The factory is expected to generate employment for approximately 1,500 people and will manufacture electronic components for a variety of industries, including consumer durables and IT hardware.

Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Zetwerk Electronics, noted that this was the company’s seventh manufacturing facility in India, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening the domestic supply chain and serving international markets.

Electronics Industry Surges as India’s Second-Largest Export Sector

Union Minister Vaishnaw highlighted how India’s electronics exports have seen remarkable growth, surpassing several legacy export industries in just a decade.

“The electronics industry has emerged as the second-largest export sector in the country, overtaking many traditional industries. Our focus now is to expand production capabilities and boost India’s role in global electronics manufacturing,” he said.

He also thanked the Tamil Nadu government for its strong support in promoting electronics manufacturing, recognizing the state’s crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India’s electronics market into a $500 billion industry.

Increased Budget for Tamil Nadu’s Rail Infrastructure

Apart from the electronics sector, Union Minister Vaishnaw also spoke about the significant increase in railway budget allocations for Tamil Nadu under the present government.

He contrasted the current ₹6,636 crore budget allocation for railway projects in Tamil Nadu with the “minuscule allocations” under the previous UPA government, underscoring the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the state.
